WESTPORT, Conn. The Westport Weston Family Y and Homes With Hope are among five Westport-based nonprofits that recently received a total of $25,000 in grants from First County Bank Foundation, the foundation announced in a news release.
Homes With Hope, which provides supportive housing and programming for the homeless, received $10,000 for its Bacharach Community, an emergency shelter for homeless single mothers and their children.
The Family Y received a $5,000 grant to fund scholarships for underprivileged families in its Early Learning Program.
Positive Directions, a nonprofit that focuses on preventing and treating substance abuse and other dependencies through counseling and educational programs, was also awarded a $5,000 grant.
A $2,500 grant was awarded to Project Return, which operates a group home and other programs for teenage girls and young women in crisis. The money will go toward the HEAL program, an after-school community service program for at-risk teen girls.
United Way of Coastal Fairfield County also received a $2,500 grant, which will be used to support Westport-based programming.
Last year, the First County Bank Foundation awarded more than $591,000 in grants to 110 nonprofits in lower Fairfield County, according to the news release. Since its inception in 2001, the foundation has awarded 644 individual grants worth more than $4.6 million.
