Westport Lifeguard Charged With Filming Co-Workers Gets Probation

WESTPORT, Conn. — A former Westport lifeguard accused of filming his female co-workers will receive five years probation and a suspended jail sentence after pleading guilty to five counts of voyeurism, according to the Stamford Advocate.

The former lifeguard at Burying Hill Beach, 30-year-old Michael Collins, was arrested in December 2015 and charged at the time with 431 counts of voyeurism, 431 counts of eavesdropping and one count of possession of child pornography after police said he placed miniature cameras in the lifeguard shack at the beach.

In addition to the five years of probation and the 10-year suspended sentence, Collins will have to undergo treatment and is prohibited from contacting lifeguards at Burying Hill Beach during his probation, the Stamford Advocate reported. One of this co-workers has a restraining order against him that prohibits him from contacting her for 30 years, according to the Stamford Advocate.

Prosecutors said in court that they could not prove the charge of child pornography, according to the Stamford Advocate. State's Attorney Richard Colangelo said that the outcome of the trial protects the victims while still allowing Collins to get the help he needs, according to the Stamford Advocate.
