Westport Ends Extended Daily Parking at Station

WESTPORT, Conn. – As summer ends, so will the temporarily extended daily parking areas at the Saugatuck train station in Westport, Acting Police Chief Dale Call announced Wednesday.

This week, the temporary spots in Lots 8 and 4 are reverting to permit-only spaces. Call said new permits have been issued, resulting in higher permit space usage. This means the permit-only spaces that were open to daily parkers this summer will no longer be available to non-permit holders.

Daily parkers, who pay a $5-a-day fee, must park in their designated areas. Over the next two weeks, non-permit vehicles parked in permit-only spaces in Lots 4 and 8 will receive warnings, in addition to the daily parking fee.

Daily parkers may park in open permit-only spaces within these two lots after 10 a.m. They will still receive the $5 daily parking fee. Daily parkers who park in permit-only spaces in these two lots before 10 a.m. will be ticketed beginning Sept. 26, Call said.

Parking permits are issued based on the average number of open permit spaces each day, Call said. In August, 150 permit applications were sent out. Applications will continue to be sent out on a rolling basis until those 150 permits have been issued.
