Weston's Power Restoration Could Take Days

WESTON, Conn. – Even as power was restored in neighboring towns on Monday afternoon, 71 percent of Weston residents were still in the dark.

“We don’t really have an update on the power situation yet,” said First Selectman Gayle Weinstein, who cautioned residents that power could remain out for three to five more days.

“It may take more than a week to restore service to all of our customers," Connecticut Light & Power said in a statement. "CL&P is scheduling crews to work around the clock until restoration efforts are complete.”

“Our priorities remain handling emergency situations, assessing damage and working with towns to clear blocked roads. Unlike Tropical Storm Irene, CL&P experienced significant damage to transmission lines in central and northwest Connecticut, complicating restoration efforts. These lines bring power from where electricity is made to the wires that supply neighborhoods.”

Weinstein said crews from CL&P were in Weston, working on the outages. She anticipated additional crews would arrive soon. In the meantime, Weinstein said, any residents wishing to seek shelter from the cold, wanting to charge cellphones and laptops or looking to take a shower can do so at the emergency shelter at Weston Middle School. Residents can also use Town Hall as a charging station.
