Weston Upgrades to Digital Radio System

Every 15 steps, two contractors from Northeast Towers stopped to take a break as they climbed the 190-foot communications tower in Weston on Thursday.

The two men were making adjustments to the antennas so the Weston Police Department can make the switch from an analog system to a digital radio system.

"It's newer. There's better coverage, and it's more reliable. It allows us to have better interoperability with other towns that have switched over, specifically Wilton and Redding," Sgt. Pat Daubert said.

Marcus Communications is installing the new system, which will allow the town to communicate with other towns even if the radio systems have different manufacturers. By switching systems, the town is complying with a national standard, Daubert said.
