Weston To Celebrate July 4 With Fireworks And More

WESTON, Conn. The fireworks will go off at 9:20 p.m. but that's just the end of a fun-filled day of festivities in Weston on the Fourth of July.

The town's holiday celebration, a festive event that's been held since 1976, starts at 11:30 a.m. with swimming at the Bisceglie-Scribner Park pond for residents and guests.

The main event begins at 4:30 p.m. at the Middle School, when live bands will peform and a barbecue will be held, with hot dogs, hamburgers, chips, soda and ice cream available for purchase.

The music will include patriotic tunes from the Westport Community Band and American Concert Band and pop and rhythm and blues from Straight Note Chasers, which has one Weston resident. The Magic Genie also will perform.

Straight Note Chasers is scheduled for a two-hour set before the fireworks are set off and another set from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m. after the fireworks show.

The rain date for the event is July 5, with food and fireworks only.

A large crowd of 3,000 to 4,000 is expected, so come early to avoid parking problems.

Police, fire and EMS will provide security.
