Weston resident Betsey Peyreigne woke up this morning to an inch of ice covering everything outside. She laughs when she thinks of this crazy winter. I have piles [of snow] in the front here that will probably still be here when my kids wear shorts to school, she said. In my 50 years on the planet Ive never seen such a thing.
The recent storm dropped freezing rain and knocked out power across town. Roads were icy, but conditions did not warrant any closures, Weston police said. This is the ninth storm of the season, and the eighth school closure this year.
Mother nature is not one to mess with, Peyreigne said. Shes obviously got her sights on the New England this year.
Peyreigne keeps a solid sense of humor to ward off the winter doldrums. Her and her family spend time making ice sculptures and finding creative ways to kill time. If the snow banks stay around long enough we can keep our beer cool in the summer by putting it in the snow bank while were sitting by the pool, she joked.
Police reported that few residents ventured into the roads during the ice storm, allowing road crews ample time to plow. Nearly 30 residents were without power as of 3:30 p.m., according to the Connecticut Light & Power, representing less than 1 percent of total households. CL&P said it hopes to restore power to these homes by later Wednesday evening.
Residents reported no disabled vehicles or accidents to the police either, although the winter weather advisory is still in effect until 6 p.m.
