Weston Historical Society Marking Civil War Anniversary With Encampment

WESTON, Conn. -- The Weston Historical Society will mark the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War with an encampment Saturday.

The society will host the encampment of Company F of the Connecticut 15th Regiment re-enactors. The event will include demonstrations of cooking and camp building, as well as displays of tools, doctor's implements, weapons, textiles and period dress.

Children can participate in regimental drills and have their photograph taken by a re-enactor photographer.

The encampment is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $20 for families or $5 for individuals.

The society will host a "Remembering the Civil War" exhibit, which also opens Saturday and continues through Oct. 25. 

There will be a special preview of the exhibit for society members from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.

The Weston Historical Society is at 104 Weston Road. It is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and by appointment.
