Weston GOP Voters Look to Obama's Defeat

WESTON, CONN. — Turnout was light in Weston for the Republican primary Tuesday with about 100 voters casting ballots by noon. Most thought their candidate has a good chance to beat President Obama.

“Obama’s record is abysmal,” said former First Selectman Woody Bliss. “He’s a bright guy but totally over his head in conducting the office of President.”

He attributed the large number of Republican contenders to the president’s performance. “If the President was doing a good job, you wouldn’t see so many candidates,” he said.

Donna Anastasia, the town clerk, said Mitt Romney’s chances in November will be good “because there are so many unhappy people who want to see major changes.”

Joyce Rohrback preferred Romney “as a better prospect than the other candidates because of his views on the economy.”

Bill Brady predicted “a change in the administration. I’m looking forward to greater economic health, a decrease in unemployment, tax relief and affordable health care options,” he said.

There are 1,944 registered Republicans in Weston. Voting will continued until 8 p.m. at the Weston Middle School.
