Weston Football Has Car Wash

WESTON, Conn. - Weston High School football players run, pass, block, tackle ... and wash a mean car.

The team had its annual Memorial Day car wash Saturday at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish, offering free washes with donations accepted. Johnny's Roadside was on hand with free hot dogs, drinks and chips.

Head coach Joe Lato said the car wash is a fundraiser with a goal of raising money to support a fall practice camp in late August. The team attends the camp for a weekend with Newtown High School and has scrimmages. "It's a team bonding event," Lato said.

The team finished 7-3 last season, first place in the Southwest Conference Patriot division.

The car wash was sponsored by the Weston High School Gridiron Club, a not-for-profit organization that supports the team. Its members include current and former Weston High School players' families.
