WESTON, Conn. - It looks like there will be higher voter turnout in Weston Tuesday, as poll moderators are seeing an average of 150 voters come in every hour.
Based upon our early morning activity, I must say we are expecting a higher turnout than normal, said Registrar of Voters Susan Moran.
As of noon on Tuesday, there were 907 votes cast in Weston out of the 6,364 residents registered to vote. Weston voters started lining up at the polls at 5:45 Tuesday morning, Moran said.
Of those coming out to vote, there seems to be mixed reviews on the current administration run by First Selectman Gayle Weinstein, a Democrat, who is competing against current Republican Selectman Dan Gilbert.
I am voting for the good guys, said Bruce Taylor. Although Taylor did not want to comment on who he voted for, he did say, I am happy with our current administration.
Catherine McCarthy said she voted to supported the current board of education. We moved to Weston because of its excellent schools and I would like to see them stay that way but I also feels its important to keep taxes down," she said. "I think for everyone, taxes are always a concern.
Timothy Head said voting during municipal elections was the best way to see instant change. "This is important because down here at the local level, this is the real grassroots movement," he said. "This is where it all begins, this is where we can see change the most."
The polls are open tonight until 8 p.m. at Weston Middle School.
