Weston Church Carnival Intends to Outdo Itself

WESTON, Conn. – Step right up to the St. Francis Carnival, a fun-filled day for the Weston community celebrating the patron saint of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. The festivities will be held on the church grounds, 35 Norfield Road, on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 1 to 7 p.m.

This is the first time St. Francis has held a carnival of this type.

"We want to host a celebration that will bring all the people of our parish and our neighbors in the community together to have a great time," said Elise Major, head of the Parish Council. "Our parish has had a very successful year, and we were looking for an opportunity to celebrate the strong ties among our parishioners and with Weston at large. Everyone is welcome to join in the fun!" The carnival will include inflatable rides, a rock-climbing wall, a bungee jump, laser tag, games, food and drink, entertainment, novelties/crafts and more. Entry to the carnival will be free. Bracelets for admission to all rides will be available in advance for $15 per person, or on the day of the event for $20. Bracelets will be sold at St. Francis after masses on the weekends of Sept. 17, 18, 24 and 25. For more information on purchasing bracelets, contact Peggy Shaeffer at (203) 226-9387.

Because of St. Francis' special devotion to animals, the celebration of the feast of St. Francis would not be complete without the traditional "blessing of animals." Father Michael Dunn, pastor of St. Francis Church, will give a special blessing to any pet that is brought to the statue of St. Francis at the top of the church's parking lot at noon on Oct. 1. For further information or questions about the St. Francis Carnival, visit the St. Francis of Assisi Website (www.sfaparish.com) or call the Parish Office at (203) 227-1341. The rain date for the carnival is Sunday, Oct. 2, from 1 to 7 p.m.
