WESTON, Conn. You can rummage around Grandma's Attic, Walton's Corner and 50 other vendors Saturday at the 110th annual Norfield Country Fair but don't be late because the crowds line up early.
Grandma's Attic accepts early-bird customers for a $5 fee at 8:30 a.m. Katherine Kingsmill, co-chair of Grandma's Attic, said people start lining up as early as 7 a.m. to get the best deals. Items are priced at 10 cents and up. "Everything goes and goes quickly," said Kingsmill.
All items are donated by the community and include an array of household goods, clothing, toys, games, linens, bikes, strollers, hardware, sporting goods, lamps and crafts "anything you'd ever need," said Kingsmill.
Volunteers have been setting up for two weeks to prepare for the fair Saturday. The fair's hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. In addition to Grandma's Attic, there will be sales of clothing, books, movies and CDs.
"In the Parish Hall, there will be everything from today's fiction to old piano books, old history books and more," said Sarah Appleyard, an intern working for Teri Gaberman, chairman of the fair.
A silent auction will be held with items such as a cosmetics basket from Lang's Pharmacy.
Children can hop their highest in a potato sack race or get their faces painted and do crafts. DJ Matt Zako will provide music, and Country Kitchen will have homemade baked goods.
This year's theme is "Where Faith Meets Community." All proceeds will go to the George Washington Carver Center, HEROS, Pivot Ministries, Bridgeport Rescue Mission, Bethel Recovery Center and the Community Food Pantry of Weston.
After the fair closes, the annual pig roast with music and dancing will be held from 6 to 10 p.m.
