Webbe's Easton Website Gets Mixed Reaction

EASTON, Conn. – Former first selectman candidate Robert Webbe has launched his new web site, Easton Eye, to mixed reviews by town readers.

The site states it will be “dedicated to informing Eastonites about issues of concern in our town. Whether it’s related to town governance, finances, development, education or some other issue, Easton Eye believes that you, the taxpayer, have a right to know the details.”

Webbe, who lost his first selectman bid to Thomas Herrmann in the November election, said the site is not affiliated with any particular party and is simply trying to keep Eastonites informed about the inner workings of the town.

But many of our readers were leery of Webbe’s intentions. Some suggested the web site is just another way to push his political agenda.

A reader using the name Government Agent thought the site would become a smear campaign against Herrmann. “People like this are often vicious and they attack leaders on a personal level. It is happening more and more today even in a small town like Easton. Mr. Webbe has a long history of excoriating Mr. Herrmann on a very personal level without offering anything positive. Easton is better than that and Mr. Webbe has a lot to learn.”

Another reader, opting for the user name Luigi Vampa, wrote, “Thanks for bring your lowbrow brand of politics to Easton. Keeping everyone informed would be positive but unfortunately that does not look like your goal. If this new website looks anything like your campaign website it will be full of attacks and nothing else.”

But not everyone believes Webbe is up to no good. CodaSnap52 wrote, “I am all for a voice that keeps our leadership in check. Watch Dogs have their place. ... So long as Webbe keeps the conversation fair I'm sure his website can be an asset to our community.”
