Walkers, Runners Step Off In Wesport To Benefit American Heart Association

WESTPORT, Conn. — Crowds turned out at Westport's Sherwood Island State Park on Sunday to participate in the Fairfield County Heart Walk and 5K.

The local walk and 5K, which supports the American Heart Association, has already raised nearly $327,000 of the $350,000 goal.

This year, the annual event added a 5K run to the lineup.

Skies were cloudy, but the day stayed dry as participants stepped off at the beach.

The Heart Walk is the American Heart Association's biggest regional event, with nearly 1,000 participants walking and running to support the association's programs and research.
