Starting this fall, the Westport Arts Center will again offer guided tours of art destinations in New York and Connecticut. The "WAC This Way" program grants modern and contemporary art enthusiasts insider access to public and private art collections.
The program, which was launched last year with two tours of the Brant Foundation in Greenwich and one to the Donald M. Kendall Sculpture Gardens at PepsiCo in Purchase, N.Y., was so popular, the Arts Center decided to do it all again.
"The programs were so well received that we plan to expand and provide more experiences for the public," Danielle Ogden, the center's director of education, said in a statement. "It is such a thrill to explore these gems in our community and gain insight into the motivations and interests of modern and contemporary art collectors."
The fall tour series kicks off Monday, Sept. 13, with a tour of the Mallin Foundation in Pound Ridge, N.Y. The owners of this collection, Joel and Sherry Mallin, earned a place in ARTnews magazine's "Top 200 Collectors" list for their impressive contemporary art collection.
Trips also are scheduled to the Philip Johnson Glass House in New Canaan on Monday, Sept. 20, and Monday, Oct. 25. Built in 1949, this unique property, designed by architect Philip Johnson, is an early example of how industrial materials were used in home design.
Those not able to tour the Brant Foundation last year are in luck because on Tuesday, Nov. 9, a tour of this private collection, which houses some of today's most important American modern and contemporary artists, is scheduled.
Each "WAC This Way" tour is $75 per person or $60 per person for WAC members. More information about the program and tours can be found on the WAC website or by calling 203- 222-7070.
