The Easton Village Store has been given the greenlight to repair two rundown barns many in town have labeled an "eyesore." Owners Marsel and Mary Catherine Huribal's proposal to restore the barns at the back of the store property was approved by the Planning and Zoning Board last week.
The barns have traditionally been used as storage for the century-old store. The buildings are currently barely usable. The project would expand the store area, making more shelf space, pushing back the deli and moving the tables into a cafe area. The plans would stick to the original footprint of the barn and the entrance would be moved from its current spot facing Sport Hill Road to face the parking lot.
Although previous store owners tried unsuccessfully to make similar renovations, all Easton residents who spoke at the public hearing earlier this month were in favor of the project, calling EVS a "gateway to Easton" and the project "a tremendous asset" to town.
The start of construction is still uncertain as there is a period where an appeal can still be made.
