Update: I-95 Killed One, Injured Driver

A fiery crash Saturday afternoon on I-95 killed a New York woman and put a man in critical condition. According to published reports, Mary Hughes, 67, of Queens was the passenger in the fiery crash, and died from her injuries Saturday evening. The driver, Ronnie Hughes, 63, is alive but in unknown condition.

At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, the Fairfield Fire Department and Connecticut State Police responded to a call of a flaming vehicle on the southbound side of the highway. They discovered tha Hughes' vehicle had slammed into the abutment of the Grasmere Avenue overpass between exits 24 and 23 and burst into flames.

According to the Fairfield Fire Department, bystanders were treating the driver and a passenger for injuries when they arrived. The two were rushed to local hospitals immediately after responders arrived. Mary was pronounced dead when she reached Bridgeport Hospital, while Ronnie is still being treated at St. Vincent's.
