Two Weston Delegates Set For Democratic Convention

WESTON, Conn. – The two members of the Weston Democratic Town Committee who are serving as delegates to the Democratic National Convention are looking forward to the speeches from President Barack Obama and other Democratic leaders, including Gov. Dannel Malloy, who will speak Wednesday.

Susan Moch, a lawyer who’s lived in Weston for 19 years, is a committee member, a meeting moderator and a member of the Weston Charter Revision Committee. She drove to Charlotte, N.C., with her husband, Roland Poirier, who worked for ABC News and has covered 14 conventions and her son, Marc Poirier, a photographer who will be taking photos at the convention.

“So much is going on,” she said. “I’m excited to hear Bill Clinton speak and I’m looking forward to the acceptance speeches by President Obama and Vice President Biden on Thursday. They will speak in a stadium in an event open to the public, I think that’s wonderful.”

Barbara Reynolds, the Weston Democratic Town Committee chairman and a state central committee representative for the 26th Senate district who has lived in Weston for 21 years, said she’s looking forward to the speeches and is proud Malloy will speak. She also will attend women’s caucus events, which she said “are very important for women’s issues.”

Moch and Reynolds arrived Sunday in Charlotte to attend caucuses and other events, including the CarolinaFest Monday, before the convention starts Tuesday. “I've been gearing up for months,” Reynolds said.

Both are participating in their first presidential conventions.
