Two Weston Artists Exhibit at the Library

WESTON, Conn. — Two Weston artists discussed their work Thursday evening at the opening reception for an exhibit sponsored by the Weston Commission for the Arts. The show runs through June 30 at the Weston Library.

Margaret Brooks, who presented paintings and sculptures with an African theme, said, “I’ve always loved sculpture and have created a number of sculptures and reliefs. The paintings feature bold colors, half way between abstract and realism.”

The African theme includes a painting called “Young Massai” and a sculpture called “Zulu Chief.” “I love the diversity of the people and animals, they’re very colorful,” Brooks said.

Jeannette Hensinger displayed woodcuts, monotypes and mono prints. “I love to do woodcuts,” she said. “They’re carved by hand and rolled with inks, and I use a non-traditional way of rolling." She called her style “contemporary, bouncing off natural elements.” The works included colorful prints that showed natural elements, including “Sea and Sun,” “Earth and Sky” and “Landscapes.”

Linda Brown, a Weston attorney, enjoyed the exhibit. “People need balance in their lives and benefit from seeing these artistic perspectives. I like the fact the town has these activities, and I’m also grateful to the artists who bear their souls when they present their works.”

Both artists said their works are for sale, but no prices were provided at the opening reception.
