EASTON, Conn. Residents will head to the polls Tuesday to choose from three candidates hoping to run Easton as first selectman.
The first selectman seat is a two-year, part-time, salaried position. The candidates are First Selectman Thomas Herrmann, Republican, and two write-in candidates, Richard Seclow, a Republican, and Robert Webbe, who is unaffiliated.
Herrmann, who has served two consecutive terms, is the managing director at Stanwich Partners in Wilton. Herrman said he is proud of his accomplishments as first selectman.
In a tough economy, we have managed to achieve a AAA credit rating, curtail municipal spending, keep tax increases low, preserve Eastons rural character, and sustain an acclaimed school system," Hermann said.
Herrmann has been an Easton resident since 1982 and has been involved in public service since 1986. He is also a member of the Easton Exchange Club and the Easton Lyons Club. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts and his masters of business, business administration degree, from Harvard Business School. He is married and has two children.
While Republican Seclow has placed his name on the ballot, he is running on the just one issue the need for cell towers in Easton. Seclow told The Daily Easton he wants to draw attention to the lack of a utility which can be a vital part in our lives. Seclow declined to provide any information about his personal life to The Daily Easton.
Webbe, an account executive with the Vermont-based nutrition company New Chapter, Inc., states on his website, www.robertwebbe.com, that after attending several board, commission and town meetings, he observed troubling indications of dysfunction in our town government.
Part of the problem, Webbe says, is the lack of communication between Herrmann and town residents. Decisions are too often made exclusive of essential committee oversight and/or the voice of the citizenry," he said.
Webbe promises to decentralize town government, encourage debate, establish task forces to work with town emergency management officials, determine options for the South Park Avenue property and reduce taxes. He and his wife have two children.
The polls, which are located at Samuel Staple Elementary School, are open Tuesday from 6 a.m. until 8 p.m.
