EASTON, Conn. A Highland cow named Mary Queen of Scots took her time Saturday, as was her royal prerogative, before letting the chip fall on No. 64, picking it as the $500 winner at the Easton Country Fair.
Mary was brought to the arena by her local owner Saturday at about 2 p.m. Two-and-a-half hours later she did her royal duty. Entrants in the fairs cow chip raffle purchased a numbered plot of grass for $25, hoping it would find favor with Mary.
The Friends of the Easton Library sponsored the event. In addition to the cow chip raffle, it included pony rides, an apple pie baking contest, a pie eating contest, a cake walk, bean bag toss, face painting, hair extensions, lasso throw and more.
