A Westport Stop & Shop employee played a key role in helping police nab an alleged shoplifter Wednesday night.
According to police reports, Heather Luty of Norwalk filled a shopping cart with groceries and left the store without paying. When Luty, 28, was confronted by store employees, she ditched the cart and ran away. Officers were able to find Luty because an employee followed her as she walked along Post Road East.
Approximately $620 worth of groceries was found in the abandoned cart. Luty was charged with fifth-degree larceny. When she was taken into custody, police learned that Norwalk police held a warrant for Lutys arrest for failure to appear. She is due in court on Dec. 6 for both cases.

? Westport resident John Geisler of 1 West Branch Road was arrested Wednesday afternoon for allegedly slapping his teen daughter during a dispute. Geisler, 55, was charged with disorderly conduct and appeared in court on Friday. His daughter, a minor, was also charged with disorderly conduct.
? Linda Dietzel of East Haven was arrested early Friday on Riverside Avenue after police reportedly saw her car weaving and almost hit the curb. When Dietzel, 36, was stopped, the officer smelled alcohol on her breath. She failed field sobriety tests and was charged with operating under the influence and failure to drive in the proper lane. She is due on court on Dec. 3.
