Between his service on the Representative Town Meeting, five town committees, and seven RTM subcommittees, Democratic state representative candidate Jonathan Steinberg said the weeks between now and Nov. 2 are going to be hectic.
"It will be hard, I won't say otherwise," said Steinberg, a life-long Westporter. "I'd much rather be solving problems than doing political things, but I realize now, my number one priority has to be campaigning."
Currently, Steinberg serves on the Plan Implementation Committee, Wastewater Management Committee, and Celebrate Westport Committee. He also serves as chair of the Downtown Plan Subcommittee and co-chair of the WWMC Public Education Task Force.
On the RTM, he serves on the Education Committee, is chair of the Health and Human Services Committee, the Library, Museum and Arts Committee, Long Range Planning Committee, and is vice chair of the Rules Committee.
Though he's got a full plate in front of him, Steinberg said he isn't going to back away from his responsibilities to Westport.
"I may not be as aggressive in pushing some of these initiatives forward, but that doesn't mean I'm going to suspend my involvement," Steinberg said. "I would be remiss if I abandoned the town to take care of personal needs."
Finding a balance between town duties and campaigning will be tough, he acknowledges. But with the primary over, and knowing he faces Republican Nitzy Cohen, Steinberg already has an idea of how he's going to run his campaign.
"I'm going to emphasize the differences between me and Nitzy," Steinberg said. "I've been on the RTM for seven years: I already have experience. And, I'm very comfortable reaching out to people, crossing over party lines and finding common ground. These are the skills needed in Hartford."
Though elections are more than a month away, Steinberg said he is "confident I will be victorious."
