Staples High School Ranking Tops Westport News This Week

WESTPORT, Conn. — News that Staples High School was rated the seventh-best high school in the state was a hot topic in Westport this week. Here's a look at some of the past week's top stories.

? U.S. News & World Report released its annual Best High School rankings this week in which it rated Staples as the seventh-best in the state. Nationwide, the magazine ranked Staples at No. 296. 

? Westport Republicans this week unofficially endorsed Jim Marpe and Avi Kaner to run as candidates for first and second selectman, respectively, in this November's municipal election. The Westport Republican Town Committee will vote in July to officially nominate Marpe and Kaner as candidates. 

? A new optical store called Eyeglasses.com opened recently in downtown Westport. The shop, owned by Westport resident Mark Agnew, carries 800 to 1,000 frames in the store and has a virtual inventory of 250,000 frames

? The area got good economic news this week. Local real estate agents reported a strong first quarter for home sales in Fairfield County. And AAA predicts gas prices to fall across Connecticut this summer.
