St. Francis Hosts World Youth Dinner

Roman Catholics worldwide will celebrate World Youth Day for a week next August, and Bridgeport Bishop William Lori invites the faithful to join him in Madrid, Spain, to share in the celebration of the Mass with Pope Benedict XVI.

At home, everyone is invited to begin the celebration with the Rev. Michael Dunn and St. Francis of Assisi parish here in Weston with a benefit dinner at 6 p.m. today.

St. Francis is hosting the dinner with a Spanish Cuisine Adventure theme as a benefit for the weeklong celebration of faith. The local dinner will include live music, a wine tasting and flamenco dancing, with free lessons. A live auction will feature items such as a trip to World Youth Day in Spain to attend the pope's Mass, along with songs, prayer and entertainment throughout the week.

Dinner tickets cost $150 per person, $250 per couple or $1,000 for a table of eight. The donations will benefit scholarships for the event. The parish is located at 35 Norfield Road, Weston.

To register for a seat at the dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, contact Sister Erica at the Diocese of Bridgeport at 203-416-1449 or register by email.
