There is no smoking inside Eileen Fisher's Clothing or Achorn Pharmacy. Unless you're talking about a portable air conditioning unit in the stores' shared basement. That apparently smokes just fine.The Westport Fire Department responded to a call reporting smoke in the basements on Tuesday afternoon. Four fire engines, a rescue truck and a shift commander arrived on the scene and reduced traffic on Main Street to one lane while they began their investigation.
And then they figured out the air conditioner was to blame. To solve they problem, they unplugged it and ventilated the store to remove the lingering odor. The last engine left a little over an hour after the call came in.
