Sightseers Get Busted For Possession

Driver Ryan O'Donnell of Florida and passenger Robert O'Neill of Massachusetts probably wish they had never stopped in Westport to sightsee on Monday.

At about 11:30 a.m., an officer pulled over a bronze Chevrolet Impala for failing to stop at Riverside Avenue and Route 1 and for doing an illegal U-turn near Save the Children on Wilton Road.

When stopped, O'Donnell, 19, and O'Neill, 32, reportedly told the officer that they were driving from Florida to Massachusetts and decided to stop in Westport to see the sights. Suspicious, the officer asked to search the car.

When the two stepped out of the car, a large clear baggie containing pills, later identified as Oxycodone, fell from O'Neill's waistband. Upon searching the car, police found 309 Oxycodone pills, of various dosages, almost 2 grams of marijuana, more than $789 in small bills, a box of plastic baggies, a scale and other drug paraphernalia.

Both are charged with sale/distribution of narcotics, possession of a controlled substance, illegal possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. They are due to appear in court Sept. 9.
