Roof Repairs Delayed at Library

Mike Horwath didn't expect to run into structural problems when he began fixing the roof at the Weston Public Library in September. He also didn't expect it to rain for a week straight.

"We've run into a few things we've had to rectify before we move on," Horwath said. "We have to also maintain the integrity of the interior as we work. ... We expect to be done sometime around Christmas."

Starting next week, the front of the library will be closed for demolition. But library patrons will have access through the automatic doors at the side of the building.

Although the library's usually silence has been replaced by the sound of power saws and hammers, library staff members are taking the noise in stride. "The people in the library are really nice; we've had no complaints," he said. "It's a true pleasure to work here."

Horwath is a supervisor for J. Antonelli Roofing, which won the bid to replace the cedar-shingled roof for $186,338 in July. The company has experience with commercial and residential roofs, and also services municipal projects such as Stamford's historic Old Town Hall and the Greenwich Library.
