Region 9 Superintendent Calls it Quits

After less than a year of serving as superintendent of the Easton, Redding and District 9 school districts, Michael Cicchetti announced his retirement effective June 2011.

Cicchetti did not cite a specific reason for his retirement but expressed his gratitude toward the towns for their dedication to educational excellence in his retirement letter dated Nov. 8.

"We are very fortunate to have parents and other town residents who are involved in education, knowledgeable about the needs of the districts, and willing to share their perspectives and concerns in such an articulate and respectful manner," Cicchetti stated.

But Cicchetti had his hands full this year after starting in the middle of the school year in January. He

also faced a one-hour commute to the administration office in Easton from his home in Farmington.

Cicchetti could not be reached for comment. Check back with The Daily Easton for updates.
