Redding Elementary School Mourns Staff Member Killed In Crash

REDDING, Conn. -- Redding Elementary School teacher Deborah Grockowski was killed in a one-car crash Sunday in Bethlehem, Conn., state police said.

Grockowski, 62, of Bethlehem, was driving a 2012 Subaru Forester about 4 p.m. when the car flipped onto its roof near 82 Main St., according to police. Police said she wasn’t wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car and died at the scene.

She was a highly accredited occupational therapist at Reading Elementary School and was a graduate of the School of Occupational Therapy at Colorado State University. 

She is survived by her mother, Nettie Grockowski; her partner of 27 years Eileen Truex; brothers, Gary and Jeffrey; Aunt Jennie Amato; sister-in-law Barbara; and nephews Jeffrey, Christian and Nicholas. She was predeceased by her father, Frank Grockowski.

A Mass of Christian Burial is at 10 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 16 at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 310 Westfield St., Middletown, Conn. 

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a children’s organization.
