Power Outages Reported Throughout Area

UPDATE AT 7:30 A.M: 

Dangerous blizzard conditions continued Monday morning, the National Weather Service reported at 6 a.m. Heavy snowfall began around midday Sunday in Fairfield County and continued throughout the day and overnight with heavy winds. More than a foot of snow was reported in towns and cities. Bands of moderate to heavy snow were expected to continue across the region through about 8 a.m., the weather service said. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were forecast with north winds of 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph.

The combination of snow and strong winds created frequent blizzard conditions with blowing and drifting of snow and whiteout conditions.

Blizzard warning were to be in effect until noon Monday, rolled back from earlier forecasts of 6 p.m. Monday.

Amtrak, which had canceled service Sunday between New York and Boston, resumed service Monday, with delays reported.

Power was being restored to customers who lost electricity overnight. As of 7:30 a.m., Connecticut Light & Power reported there were 333 customers without power in Greenwich, or 1 percent of the town’s customers; 67 in Darien; 5 in New Canaan; 28 in Norwalk; 1,924 in Stamford; 40 in Weston; 41 in Westport; and 97 in Wilton. United Illuminating reported that 1,158 customers in Fairfield were without power and 25 in Easton.
