With temperatures in the high 90s this week, many are choosing to stay home with their faces pressed up against the air conditioners. But for those brave enough to venture out into the heat, Bisceglie-Scribner Pond has been a way to keep cool.
We come to the pool every morning and we have a pool at home, but its a little pool so most of the time we come, we bring some water, said Erika Andrade, who brought three young children she was taking care of to the park. Andrade sat on a bench under the protection of an overhead tree while she watched the children play on the shaded playground
Lifeguards at the pond said they have seen more visitors stopping by for a swim in recent days, especially those who are trying to get their moneys worth after a membership fee was reinstated this year.
Its getting significantly hotter throughout the past couple of weeks and we see more patrons here, said lifeguard Spencer Kelley. On duty during the hottest hours of the day, he and the others working at the park try extra hard to stay cool.
We go to the water between shifts, try to stay in the shade, were starting to move the chairs around into the shade and try to stay out of the sun.
The pond is open to members everyday from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. until Labor Day.
