Police Get Two New Bikes

The Westport Police Department received two new police bikes Friday, thanks to a donation from New Country Toyota.

The bikes were presented to the department by New Country General Manager James Tucker. They will be used by officers specially trained for bike patrol, along with two others New Country donated in 2008.

"The police department is very grateful to New Country Toyota for this donation," Deputy Chief Dale E. Call said in a release. "Especially in these difficult economic times, their continued support of the community is greatly appreciated."

During this year's Fourth of July fireworks, bike patrol officers showed their value as they cleared traffic and helped guide medical equipment needed by EMS personnel on the beach at the same time that thousands of vehicles were leaving the area.
