WESTON, Conn. Old Mill Road, a narrow road that proceeds from Georgetown Road in Weston to Cedar Road in Wilton, has been the scene of seven accidents since the beginning of 2011 and is one of the most treacherous roads in Weston, according to police Chief John Troxell.
He declined to call it the most dangerous road in Weston because there have been no fatalities. Accidents resulting in injuries have occurred and just last week a garbage truck snapped a telephone pole in half.
Troxell said cars have driven as fast as 40 mph on the road with the speed limit posted at 15 mph, and they are ticketed when they exceed 25 mph.
Old Mill Road becomes Cobbs Mill Road when it enters Wilton. Speed bumps recently were installed there to prohibit fast driving, but Troxell said no improvements have been made to Old Mill Road in the past three years.
We have drainage and sight line issues, and trees that could be removed to improve the width of the road, he said.
There are plans to dead end the road, although Troxell thinks it wont happen because it would require approval from the selectmen and a public hearing. He also said dead ending the road would limit access to emergency vehicles and require building a cul de sac at least 80 feet wide that could cut into properties that come up against the road.
