New Westport Y Stays on Track

WESTPORT, Conn. – A Project Implementation Plan for the new Westport Weston Family Y facility in Westport was approved last week by the Y's Board of Directors and Board of Trustees.

Designed to keep the project on budget and on schedule, the Project Implementation Plan will guide the Y as it creates the new, 102,000 square-foot facility at its 32-acre Mahackeno Outdoor Center. The plan was developed by Zubatkin Owner Representation, LLC, a New York City-based owner representation and project management firm.

"After all this time and after overcoming so many obstacles, we can't wait to bring this building out of the ground," said Bonnie Strittmatter, president of the Y's volunteer Board of Directors, in a statement. "With the unanimous vote to adopt the Project Implementation Plan, we now have the team, a process and a timeline to guide us through this undertaking."

Groundbreaking on the new facility at Mahackeno is expected to take place in the fall of 2012. The project plan aims to have the facility completed by the end of 2014, when the Y needs to vacate its current downtown space.

The Y's Building What Matters capital campaign for the project began earlier this year. To make a donation or for more information about the campaign, contact Family Y CEO Rob Reeves at 203-226-8981, ext. 131, or rreeves@westporty.org.
