Work crews from United Steel will top off the 54,000-square-foot building by installing a 20-foot steel beam within the structure’s framework. The beam, the last major piece of steel that needs to be installed, has been signed by Y staff, volunteer leaders, major donors and construction partners.
The ground breaking for the project was held in February. The $38.5 million building will include an aquatics center that boasts a 10-lane 25-yard lap pool and adjacent shallow warm-water pool, a health and wellness center, a multi-purpose gymnasium, three group fitness studios, a Child Watch/Kids’ Adventure Gym area, five locker rooms and other amenities.
Expected to be completed in September 2014, the building is the first phase of construction on the overall facility, which will total 102,000-square-feet.
