Memorial Service For Weston Postal Employee

WESTON, Conn. -- A memorial service for Gaspar Veloso, the Weston postal employee who maintained the flower garden at the post office, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the post office. Veloso, 64, died April 11 at his home in Bridgeport.

First Selectman Gayle Weinstein will read a proclamation dedicating the garden to Veloso and a plaque in his memory will be put up.

Veloso was a dedicated employee "who knew everyone by name," said Dave Burns, a Weston resident who picks up his mail daily. "He was the mayor of this place."

Pat Glass, president of the Weston Garden Club, said Veloso “loved to plant flowers and the garden allowed him to express his creativity. We want to keep the garden as a living memorial to him.”

Weston residents are invited to the ceremony.
