State Sen. John McKinney and state Rep. John Shaban, both Republicans, will discuss Gov. Dannel Malloy's budget proposal at a Town Hall meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The meeting, open to the public, will be at Samuel Staples Elementary School.
At a similar presentation in Fairfield, McKinney said that the budget proposal from Malloy, a Democrat, has the highest tax increase in state history, adding up to a total $1.9 billion increase in revenue.
In this presentation, McKinney discussed deficit projections; the state's sources of revenue, such as different taxes, licenses and permits; and the state's major spending components, including, education, social services and social programs, health and hospitals, nursing homes, transportation, retired state employees' benefits, regulation, protection, corrections and judicial.
He discussed Connecticut's status as having the highest total state and local taxes per capita, the fourth highest state debt per capita, the second highest state gas prices and the second highest electricity costs.
He also addressed Malloy's budget plan and his proposed solution to close the budget gap.
