John S. Edwards, Ran Tree Farm

A funeral service was held Monday at the Jesse Lee United Methodist Church in Easton for John Sherwood Edwards, founder of Maple Row Tree Farm.

Edwards, a lifelong Eastonite, died Nov. 17. He was 93.

After graduating from the University of Maine, Edwards returned to Easton and expanded the family dairy farm into what is now Maple Row Tree Farm, which continues to be run by the family.

A lifetime member of the Easton Volunteer Fire Department and a member of the Republican Town Committee, Edwards also developed many real estate communities in Fairfield County.

Edwards also served on the Board of Finance and as president of the Connecticut Farm Bureau for many years.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis M. Edwards; four children, James S. Edwards of Easton, Stephen J. Edwards and his wife, Polly, of Easton, Larry B. Edwards and his wife, Donna, of New Hartford, and Sally Berger and her husband, John, of Hendersonville, N.C.; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Burial was in Aspetuck Cemetery in Easton. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edwards' memory can be made to the Jesse Lee United Methodist Church, 25 Flat Rock Road, Easton, CT 06612, the American Cancer Society, 1175 Post Road East, Westport, CT 06880, or VITAS Hospice Care, 99 Hawley Lane, Stratford, CT 06614.
