Irene Topples More Than 100 Trees in Easton

EASTON, Conn. — Easton has been sending crews out to downed trees only to find more problems along the way, First Selectman Thomas Herrmann said Sunday after Tropical Storm Irene ripped through town. As of 2:30 p.m., more than 100 trees were reportedly down, 30 of which involved wires, too.

Herrmann said the town was assessing the storm damage. He was with Ed Nagy, public works director, on "mission control for rehabilitation of Easton."

"It has been fairly devastating," said Herrmann. He said no motor vehicle accidents had been reported, and only a few people were seeking shelter at Easton's Senior Center. "Almost every person weathered the storm in their own homes," said Herrmann.
