How to Use Easton's Write-In Ballot

EASTON, Conn. – With elections right around the corner and two write-in candidates on the ballot for First Selectman in Easton, several readers have asked how to write in a candidate.

We put that question to Town Clerk Derek Buckley. “The best way to explain the write- in is to look at the ballot. It is available on the Secretary of State’s website and my office, the senior center and the library.”

If you look at the ballot, in the slot for the First Selectman race there will be an empty slot labeled “write in” directly underneath it. A voter simply colors in the shaded oval in the write-in candidate ballot and in that same box, under the oval, writes the candidate’s name.

Buckley said, “It is necessary to write in the candidate’s name and fill out the oval like any other candidate. The machine recognizes the filled in oval and kicks the ballot out for a hand count. The oval must be completed or the write-in vote will be ignored.”
