Foundation's Gift Helps Easton Seniors Stay Active

EASTON, Conn. – The Easton Senior Center has received a $5,000 grant from the Fairfield County Community Foundation to transport homebound and physically challenged adults and retirees to cultural and social functions.

The Center received a $10,000 award last year to assist with this unique and rewarding service, which seeks to eliminate loneliness and isolation in rural towns like Easton.

It gives seniors who would otherwise be alone on weekends the opportunity to be with others on a variety of excursions. The outings include participation in sports activities such as bowling and miniature golf, sightseeing, movies and concerts, local community meals and social events. This program lifts the spirits of everyone involved. Instead of sitting home alone, seniors are now able to look forward to a planned outing with others.

On certain occasions, seniors are brought to the Easton Senior Center to enjoy special activities. They can then share their concerns with others, and this gives staff and the Municipal Agent an additional opportunity to evaluate the mental and physical health of seniors on an ongoing basis. This way, if their needs change, they can be addressed in a timely manner. The benefits of this program are immeasurable.

Many seniors say they are thankful for this service and hope it will continue so Easton seniors can participate in social and enjoyable experiences.

There is no doubt that the Fairfield County Community Foundation has been an integral partner in ensuring the success of this wonderful program.

The Fairfield County Community Foundation promotes the growth of community and regional philanthropy to improve the quality of life throughout Fairfield County.
