The accident occurred between Exits 19 and 18 and was blocking the right and center lanes, DOT said. Backups were reported for more than 2 miles back to Exit 20, DOT said.
Firefighters from Fairfield and Westport responded, along with the State Police, eyewitnesses said.
One of the truck‘s fuel tanks ruptured, and the DOT hazmat team was called to the scene to clean up the spilled fuel, according to the Connecticut Post.
The accident was reported Monday, June 20, at about 8:55 p.m., DOT said.
It was not clear how long it would take for DOT to clear the accident scene.
