Fairfield Man Charged With DUI in Easton Crash

EASTON, Conn. — Michael Cowenhoven, 42, was charged drunken driving after crashing his vehicle on Route 58 in Easton on June 9, police said.

Police said they smelled alcohol on Cowenhoven after the accident. The Fairfield resident was transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Easton police filed for a search-and-seizure warrant to obtain and blood alcohol test from the hospital. Cowenhoven's blood alcohol content read 0.211, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08, according to the State Toxicology Laboratory.

Cowenhoven was arrested Aug. 19 on charges of operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, failure to drive in the right lane and traveling too fast for conditions. It was raining when he crashed his vehicle, police said. His car landed partially on a guardrail and partially on an embankment.

Cowenhoven was released on promise to appear with a court date of Sept. 9.
