Expect Prolonged Power Loss, Weston Chief Says

WESTON, Conn. — The 80 percent of homes without power in Weston should be prepared for a prolonged periods without power, Weston Police Chief John Troxell said Sunday morning.

The outages were widespread, with 3,069 customers, or 80 percent of the town, in the dark after the Halloween nor'easter.

A Code Red update for the town of Weston also was issued Sunday at 11 a.m. Heavy snow has caused trees to snap and fall on the roads and on power lines, causing hazardous road conditions and closures, the town reports on its website.

Crews from Connecticut Light & Power were working in Weston, but CL&P has not given an estimate on the restoration and does not anticipate making much progress Sunday, the town's website reports. Residents are asked to be prepared to be without power for three to five days.

Downed trees and power lines cover more than 40 roads. Newtown Turnpike, north of Valley Forge Road, is closed.

Town Hall will be open today until 5 pm for Internet access. A 24-hour emergency shelter is open at Weston Middle School; all residents are welcome.

Residents are asked to clear their driveways and walkways in case of an emergency and in advance of Sunday night's anticipated sub-freezing temperatures.

If you are trapped in your home, transportation is available. Residents can call 203-222-2692 or 203-222-2693 for assistance or road closing information. Weston's AT&T storm line is out of service, so call 203-222-2591 for updated information.

The town's website, www.westonct.gov and Facebook page, will be updated throughout the day.
