Electrical Fire Causes Little Damage

The Westport Fire Department responded to a small electrical fire Friday shortly after 1 p.m. at a home at 285 Greens Farms Road.

When firefighters arrived at the house, they were taken to the bedroom where the fire had started from a wall outlet. Upon seeing flames from the outlet, the homeowner reportedly turned off the circuit breaker for that room before calling the fire department.

Firefighters checked the wall to see whether the fire had spread but found it was contained to the outlet and a mattress pressed against the wall. The mattress was removed, and an inspector from the fire marshal's office was investigating the cause. The last responding unit left the house at 1:36 p.m.

The fire department reminds residents that whenever an emergency occurs, call 911 immediately.
