Easton To Vote on South Park Avenue Payment

EASTON, Conn. — Town residents will decide during a town meeting Monday whether $191,000 should be appropriated for a payment on the South Park Avenue property in Easton.

The first principal payment on the $6.1 million bond anticipation note is due July 8. The South Park Avenue Capital Project Fund has $115,000 of the $307,500 due. If approved at the June 27 meeting, the remaining $191,000 will be appropriated from the undesignated fund balance. The capital project fund contains money received from the New England Prayer Center.

The proposed appropriation will not increase the mill rate from the approved May budget referendum. If the residents vote "no" at the meeting, the town will default on its payment.

The New England Prayer Center leases the property with a purchase option. First Selectman Thomas Herrmann recently said the New England Prayer Center still intends to purchase the property.
