Easton Covers While Redding Firefighters Attend Wake

EASTON, Conn. – Four members of the Easton Fire Department will cover for the Redding Department from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Thursday so members can attend a wake for firefighter G. Marshall Sanford, who died Sunday after responding to a fire. The cause of death was not determined.

Easton Fire Chief James Girardi said he and three members of his crew “will drive a pumper to Redding and wait for calls to come in.”

Sanford, 67, was a first lieutenant who served more than 50 years as a Redding firefighter. He was the department's chief from 1982 to 1992.

The wake will be held at the Bethel Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. The funeral is scheduled for Friday, with a walking procession at the Redding Ridge Firehouse on Black Rock Turnpike. It will be attended by members of the Redding, West Redding, Georgetown and Bethel fire departments.
