Easton Residents Warned to Watch Gift Deliveries

WESTON, Conn. – Easton residents have been warned by police to keep an eye out for thieves targeting packages delivered to homes during the holidays.

"It is always a good idea for people to be on the lookout, this time of year especially, on the packages that come to your home," Easton Police Capt. James Candee said Wednesday.

Thieves have been known to rummage through mail boxes and follow delivery trucks, he said, adding that some are so brazen they will even run up to a porch just minutes after a delivery is made.

Candee recommends that residents either ask delivery drivers not to leave packages unattended on their steps or ask a neighbor for a hand. "Try to get someone to recover the package for you or to at least put it out of sight," he said.
